Hey, I’m Mila

(Or Sarmila, if we’re being formal — but let’s keep it casual.)

I’m a nail technician, but I actually started off in a totally different world — aviation. I studied the flight attendant course at MBO College Airport in Hoofddorp for 3.5 years. It was an amazing time full of valuable lessons, and even though I didn’t end up working in that field (at least not yet), everything I learned back then still helps me grow in what I do today.

Funny enough, my journey into nails started thanks to my little sister. She worked at my previous nail salon at the front desk, and I was in that “I don’t know what to do with my life” phase. I asked her if they had any jobs available, expecting something like reception work or office work. But they were actually looking for a nail technician. My first reaction was: “Wait… do I have to hold someone’s hands and feet?” Her response? “Yeah, that’s basically the job.” And just like that, I said yes.

I started as a trainee and got trained internally for 4 months. After a while — I think about a year in — I was seen as a senior nail technician. I had worked hard, pushed myself to improve, and it felt good to see that recognized. I ended up working there for nearly 3 years, and I’m still really grateful for everything I learned and how much I grew in that time — both as a person and as a professional.

Even now, I sometimes say, “I still don’t really know what I want to do with my life” — and I’ve come to realize that’s totally okay. What I do know is that I love doing nails. It’s more than just polish and designs — it’s making someone feel good, giving them a little boost, a treat to themselves. That moment when a client looks at their nails and smiles? That’s what I’m here for.

I also really enjoy the conversations I have with my clients. Every appointment is different — sometimes we laugh, sometimes we talk about life, and a lot of times I learn something new from them (and maybe they learn something from me too?). My favorite stories are always the vacation ones. I love hearing about where they went, what they did, and seeing things from their point of view. It’s like a mini trip without leaving the salon.

And of course, if someone prefers peace and quiet — that’s totally fine too. Some clients just want to relax and recharge in silence, and I completely respect that. This time is for you.

As for me, I’m calm, friendly, and always ready to help. I’ve always been that way — it’s just how I was raised. Outside of nails, I have a bunch of hobbies (too many, honestly). I love reading, trying new things, switching things up depending on my mood. I guess I’m just someone who enjoys learning and exploring — and I bring that same energy into my work.
